This award is aimed at paddlers who wish to take on formal leadership responsibilities in sheltered water environments, with groups of mixed discipline craft – kayak, open canoe, sit-on-top and stand-up-paddleboard.
Paddlers are able to take the award in whichever craft they choose and will be assessed leading a group of paddlers in sheltered open water (coastal or inland) and in slow-moving river environments.
Paddlers will also be assessed on their personal paddling skills, rescue skills, background knowledge and experience.
There is no requirement to have attended a formal training course prior to assessment. The only pre-requisites are that candidates have registered with their home nation for the assessment and that they hold a one day (8 hour) 1st Aid certificate.
We recommend however, that prospective candidates complete a British Canoeing Endorsed Paddlesport Leader Training Course with us prior to assessment, so that they are not only fully prepared for the demands of the assessment, but also that they become a more well-rounded and knowledgeable paddler and leader.
